History – Corporate

Founded in 1988, Guild has successfully navigated through all the market swings over the last 30 years.

  • 1988 – Guild is started by Duane Shaw, who establishes a strong foundation based on values, relationships, and service. Guild began as a family-owned company, and we remain a family-owned company. As such, there is a family culture at Guild that you won’t find at banks and other mortgage lenders.
  • 1994 – Guild prevails through the end of the refinance boom by focusing on purchase business.
  • 2007 – Guild prevails through the subprime meltdown.
  • 2009 – Adam Kessler becomes President. Prior to his appointment, Adam held leadership positions across most functional areas, providing him deep and varied experience to lead our company.
  • 2012 – Guild participates in our first biennial Service Expedition, held in Secanquin, Guatemala.
  • 2014 – Guild acquires the assets of Republic Mortgage, expanding to more than 200 branches and 2,300 employees nationwide.
  • 2016 – Adam Kessler becomes CEO and James Mac Pherson becomes President. James assumed this leadership role after an immensely successful career as a producing Area Manager, Branch Manager, and Loan Officer.
  • 2016 – The Guild Home Office is moved to a new, larger location in Draper, Utah.
  • 2018 – Guild ranks #18 on Glassdoor’s prestigious list of Best Places to Work. Guild is the only home loan lender on the list of 100.
  • 2018 – Guild completes our first and second employee-sponsored Service Expeditions to Ecuador. The Guild team assisted the village in building a vocational school.
  • 2019 – James Mac Pherson is named CEO, and Adam Kessler steps into the role of Chairman of the Board. Guild has strong leadership at the helm to drive our strategic growth initiatives and maintain our strength and stability.
